This week Grace and I have done a lot of reaching out and networking. We are still awaiting a response from Rock the Vote but we also emailed the La Plata Democratic and Republican campaigns. We have started to look for a mentor and we are trying to get in touch with a woman who was highly involved in the caucus we attended. I also texted a friend of mine from Amala who is very involved with Youth and Government and is very socially active in his community. I asked him about any ideas or contacts that he had and could share. The Democratic campaign was very timely and emailed us back about setting up voting booths outside of the high schools. The two people we heard back from were very happy and supportive of our project idea. They told us that we will be required to take a short class about the voting registration process but that they are happy to help us. I will be following up with them today. Grace and I have started to come up with questions that we want to answer and focus on in our project. It is our goal to fully delve into the research process the rest of the week. We will be researching effective ways to involve youth in voting and also why there is a general apathy for youth surrounding politics.
