EL DÍA DE LOS MUERTOS:
IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE: MY CALAVERAS, MY ART DEPICTING MY CALAVERA AND MY ALTER OFFERING.
This project was not only a way for us to continue practicing our knowledge of describing people using estar and ser, but it was also a way for us to get a peek into what this highly revered Mexican holiday is like. It taught us different ways of writing in Spanish by using satire and sarcasm in our calaveras, about either a famous celebrity or a certain profession. We then had to create, in an art form a representation of the story we told in our calavera. Usually calaveras are a poem-like story making fun at someone, who in the story is a skeleton. It is all very silly in the end. Another aspect of this project was for us to reflect and honor someone who had passed away in our life. It all culminated with a large fiesta; food, crafts and dancing galore!
My process of refinement was thorough. I wrote three drafts on each calavera but each draft was changed quite a bit and made better each time. It started out with a very rough first draft, filled with mistakes and incorrect noun adjective agreement and word order but by the last draft I wrote a well-formed calavera with no mistakes and the humor in it is clear. Although it was frustrating having to rewrite them so many times, it proved worth it as I want to display my best work on my DP.
My understanding of Mexican culture has not changed much as I grew up celebrating this holiday with many of my friends and inside my school. However, it was interesting to watch the Dia de los Muertos film, as it showed where their priorities, faiths and lives are and how much they highlight this day in their culture. It also makes me want to dig deeper and look at how the holiday has grown and evolved over time. It was interesting to look at how calaveras are written and how this holiday continues to be celebrated.

LA REFLECCIÓN DEL PROYECTO:
What is one specific concept or skill that you learned over the course of this project?
During this project I learned many ways in which to describe the important aspects of myself as well as the personality and physical traits of others. I also learned the importance of noun adjective agreement and noun verb agreement.
In what way did your ability to describe people in Spanish improve?
I learned more vocabulary so I can use more detail and have more of a repertoire of words to use when I speak. I also expanded on my knowledge of the verb ser (to be), the verb used to describe people. Ser is used when you are describing fixed traits.
How is your art representative of "beautiful work"?
My art is representative of beautiful work because it is clear I put my time and hard work into making the final product. It was a challenging picture to create but I feel it turned out well after I refined and went over it.
If given an opportunity to redo or refine, what specifically would you do differently?
If given an opportunity to redo or refine I would make the shape of my art clearer and more defined as well as add color. For my letter I would I would go more in depth and use more complex sentence structures as well as maybe adding more details regarding my friends and family.
